Yes,

You can – you can keep your website and add wordpress

e.g. www.yourwebsite.com/blog (wordpress would be in the blog folder

or use www.blog.yourwebsite.com which would mean creating sub domain on your domain name

  1. As the previous respondent says, yes you can, provided of course you have the space available on your server.

You don’t have to install it in a subfolder or subdomain if you don’t want to keep the exisiting site you have installed in the root. If you do want to keep that site and all its files and folders then you will have to do as the previous poster explains.

You will need to either download WordPress from WordPress.org to install it on your server, or, if your web host offers Cpanel and Fantastico, you can install the software in a couple of clicks, a much easier way to get started.

Then of course it is time to start customizing your new site with themes, plugins etc. in order to achieve the results you want. There are plenty of resources online dealing with setting up WordPress including videos – just Google it.
